Members of the Linn Genealogical Society have been transcribing, clipping, and indexing obituaries and death notices from the Albany Democrat-Herald and other newspapers since the late 1970s. To date, there are 39 volumes of transcribed obituaries or obituary clippings available at the Linn Genealogical Society Library. The consolidated index for volumes 1 through 39 (volume 2 is not a LGS project and Vol.6 & 8 indexes are not yet available) is available using the following search form. You can order copies of the obituary transcription or clipping by using the order form available in this section.The consolidated index to the LGS Newspaper Obituary Collection series has 32,803 entries for 9643 surnames. More entires are being added as earlier volumes are indexed. Dates for some volumes are being cross-checked and verified. The online index combines the indexes from all volumes of the Collection series. You can search by surnames or dates.<\/p>\n
The index to the Newspaper Obituary Collection lists the names as they appear in the obituary or notice. The date associated with an entry maybe the date when the obituary or death notice was published or it maybe the date of death. Most of the obituaries are transcripted or clipped from 1979 or later edition of the Albany Democrat-Herald of Albany, Oregon. (Note: <\/strong>Volume 1 contains some selected entries from before 1979.)
